Job Description:

Under the direction of the Medical Director and Technical Supervisor, the Cytoprep/Surgical Bench Tech will provide technical and administrative support to the department of Pathology. Requires outstanding interpersonal skills to successfully perform as a team member in a constantly changing environment. Able to set own priorities and deadlines and assumes full responsibility for the quality of own work in order to meet work expectations. Assumes responsibility for compliance with all State, Federal, Hospital and Laboratory policies and procedures.Acts as a liaison between customers and pathology to ensure customer satisfaction with pathology services by answering inquiries and resolving problems.

Essential Responsibilities:

Requires a variety of tasks and technical procedures that result in the creation of microscopic slide preparation including:

·Specimen processing

·Special specimen preparation

·Filing slides

·Specimen collection and triage

·Sending cases out for consult

·Gathering slides for pathologist assigned to monthly tumor boards

·Handling of legal request

·Handles phone calls and messages and conveys information to appropriate person

·Independently performs, organizes, and plans clerical and administrative duties in an accurate and timely fashion

Performs a variety of tasks associated with pathology surgical bench assisting including:

·Specimen collection triage

·Assisting the pathologist or pathology assistant

·Specimen accessioning

·“Short form” registration of patients in Epic

·Operates and maintains departmental instruments

·Maintains records and documentation required to manage the daily workflow and provide QA/QC monitors

·Routine staining

·Making arrangements for sending autopsies out to be performed

·Performs all other related duties as assigned

Education/Experience:

· Associate Degree with one year clinical laboratory experience

OR

· High school diploma with two years clinical laboratory experience
