Our OR Surgical Technician’s assist our surgical teams with patient operations. This includes preparing the operating rooms, patient transport, managing and tracking equipment, and assisting medical staff both during and after surgery.Mount Auburn Hospital, a Harvard Medical School affiliated teaching hospital, is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts and offers surgical procedures consisting of but not limited to vascular, lumbar laminectomy, laparoscopy, total joint surgery, cardiothoracic, and podiatry.
We generally schedule surgeries weekdays, but hours for this role can vary and require flexibility on days, evenings, nights and weekends. We are able to be flexible with 8, 10 or 12 hour shifts, and currently offer shift differentials depending on the hours worked.

Job Description:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
1. Demonstrates skill in preparing for assigned surgical procedures:Consults with team members to identify individual patient needs
2. Utilizes physician preference cards to check case carts and obtain appropriate instruments, equipment, suture, and supplies
3. Utilizes available resources (e.g., experienced personnel, policy/procedure manuals, texts) to prepare for assignments
4. Demonstrates resourcefulness when procedures are unusual or unfamiliar
5. Collaborates with team members to improve/update preference cards or other resource information
6. Prepares case set-up within an acceptable timeframe
7. Scrubs, gowns, and gloves according to procedure
8. Maintains strict aseptic technique
9. Prioritizes set-up
10. Completes set-up according to accepted standards; i.e., neat, organized, accurate.
11. Conserves supplies and equipment
12. Demonstrates skill in performing intraoperative scrub responsibilities:Maintains strict aseptic technique throughout procedure
13. Assists with appropriate prepping and draping according to procedure
14. Maintains organized back table
15. Anticipates the needs of the surgical team
16. Demonstrates skill in the proper handling of instruments
17. Consistently focuses attention on the surgical procedure
18. Communicates with the team to promote smooth progression of the procedure
19. Performs counts according to MAH policy/procedure
20. Practices and promotes electro-surgical safety: adheres to policy/procedure
21. Gives thorough, concise report at change of shift or whenever relieved from surgical procedure
22. Conserves supplies and equipment: respects cost, environmental waste, and patient/personnel safety
23. Respects patient's privacy

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Graduate of an Operating room Technician Program, or equivalent preparation.
2. One year of Operating Room experience preferred.
3. Good interpersonal skills
4. Must be C.O.R.T. certified or eligible.Physical Requirements & Environment:
1. Walks and stands up to 90% of their work time.
2. Must be able to push and pull heavy weights (including patients) and lift 50 pounds.
3. Exposure to trace anesthetic gases and other chemicals in the environment.
4. Exposure to patient fluids and/or specimens throughout the work day.
5. Use of power tools during surgery is required.
6. Personal protective equipment is required, including eye protection, gowns, gloves, and surgical masks.
7. Complies with precautions, as defined by Infection Control staff, in patients/materials requiring isolation.
